Yes, another late review. And just in time as well.

Let’s talk about evolution, the development of societies, and the “Final Frontier”. The game Spore implements all of these ideas, albeit portraying them differently than in real life in order to allow the player control these things much more than they would be able to if they weren’t portrayed differently.
Spore’s a very big game. You have the Creature Creator, which is basically half the fun of the game, the Asteroid-esque Cell Stage, the third person eater (?) Creature Stage, and the Real Time Strategy Civilization and Space stage. Although Spore has all these types of gameplay in it, that doesn’t mean that these stages are done particularly great. In reality, Spore does a nice, but not great, job on these stages. Things in this game are done better in other games, except for the fact that other games don’t let you create your own species and then play along with it.
Considering what Maxis wanted to do, needed to do, and did do, they did a pretty magnificent job making this game, although things like the creature stage could’ve been done much better. The main problem with this game is its repetitive nature. Every stage except the Civilization stage and Space stage has you eat or ally yourself with other things. For an example, in the creature stage, levelling up is fairly easy, all you do is eat other creatures and hope you survive. There’s no point in adding other things to your creature because all those part allow you to do is allying actions, like dancing, charming or posing.

Despite all these flaws, the area where Spore achieves excellence is its Creature Creator.
I love this thing.
The Creature Creator is extremely easy to use in the business of making creatures. It features a simple and easy to use GUI, and is very versatile. Sometimes it feels limited, but this feeling doesn’t occur often enough to ruin the experience.
All in all, Spore is a decent, and pretty fun game. Just don’t expect it to become a Game of the Year. I give Spore a 7.2/10
